Public meeting scheduled to discuss media levy referendum

An opportunity for students to make their opinions heard

On October 15th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, a public meeting for the media levy referendum will be held in the Breuneau Center lecture hall, IIC-2001.

The Media Levy referendum will appear on MUNSU’s by-election ballot, with voting taking place between 9:00 am on October 21st until 9:00 pm on October 22nd

If passed, the referendum would mean a $1.49 increase to the $4.00 fee, which funds student media—CHMR and The Muse.

According to MUNSU’s bylaws and Chief Returning Officer Russell Waye, the intent of this meeting is to form two committees: a “yes committee” and a “no committee.”

The opportunity to possibly join a committee is open to MUN undergraduate students as union members.

In the event one or both committees are formed, they will individually receive a $50 allowance to the Atic for campaigning respectfully for or against the referendum.

Although forming these committees is the primary purpose of the meeting, it will also serve as a public forum, allowing students to make their opinions heard.
