Local drag queen Gravy is making her way to Hamilton this month to compete in season 7 of Canada’s Drag Race. She will be bringing her iconic blend of comedic and glamorous performances to the biggest stage for Canadian drag queens, duking it out with 11 other queens for the chance at $100,000.
This will be an exciting opportunity for Gravy to represent the drag community in St. John’s in all of its glory. The Muse got the chance to speak to Gravy about what this opportunity means to her and how she plans on representing this province.

“The show is such a treasured piece of queer media,” said Gravy. “We spend so long using the show as a sort of standard to try and reach. Once you get that approval in a way, it’s a scary thing to prepare for, but I always feel a sense of purpose that helps me trust my instinct.”
On the drag scene in St. John’s, Gravy said it’s “amazing… I can only hope that my community feels represented by what I do, and at the end of the day, that’s the true power of a platform like this, being able to take that megaphone and broadcast the true essence of what got you there in the first place… but I’m just focusing on staying true to the Gravy that made it this far.”
Hoping to incorporate some provincial culture into her work, Gravy said “My drag name aside, what I do is very infused with the essence of Newfoundland culture. I [look forward] to showing bits of our province that not everyone gets to see from afar through my work. I think the true beauty of Newfoundland is the amount of art, talent and passion built into us.”
She says she’s going to be “trusting that Newfie instinct and givin’ er all I got.”
Season 7 of Canada’s Drag Race premieres November 19th, and everyone back home will be watching, dancing, and singing along with Gravy.
