Newfoundland based alternative rock band, Another North, comprised of members Aaron Morgan, Brad Wells and Joe Tucker, have released their much-anticipated sophomore record titled ‘The Missing Mouth’. The Missing Mouth comes four years after their 2014 release ‘Nomadic’, which launched them into the spotlight locally, and across the east coast of Canada. This band, which came together six years prior to the release of Nomadic, spent this time diligently honing their craft. The time spent between album releases made fans hungry for more of their unique take on alt-rock, which continues to receive acclaim.

When asked about the audience they hope to appeal to with their music, Aaron stated, “I think our music appeals largely to fans of 90’s and early 2000’s alternative rock – mostly children of the 80’s and 90’s, but I wouldn’t want to limit our appeal in that way. Age is not entirely a factor when it comes to some of the themes on the album; I think people from a broad age range could relate to most”. Like their 2014 album ‘Nomadic’ which includes songs such as Antidote, Live Like Bear, Suitcase Head and Malthus, Another North has created a range of sounds which are truly unique to their brand. A blend of songs on different themes with soundtracks that are both impossible to ignore and utterly compelling to listen to, evoking deep feelings in the listeners. Most songs, and indeed albums usually evoke specific emotions and feelings; sometimes its nostalgia, love, pain, passion and even plain old comfort. Like British music icon ‘Adele’ with ‘someone like you’ and American music star ‘Pharrell Williams’ with ‘Happy”. On the type of emotions they hope to evoke in their listeners, Aaron said, “Making music is in some ways a selfish process, for me. I don’t necessarily think about, or target, the emotion I hope it will create in others. I would say I am aware of the feelings myself and the rest of the band may be experiencing while writing and building the songs. That being said, if someone relates to a song in the same way I do,or even in a way I wouldn’t expect, that’s really meaningful for me.”

“The themes on the album could produce a variety of emotions. Some songs, like ‘Glass,’ may feel inspirational for some, which is obviously a good feeling to hope for in our listeners. Others are about loss and longing, love and connection, and even anger. It’s a varied record – both in the themes it contains, and the feel of the songs”. With the unique blend of sounds in ‘The Missing Mouth’, Another North is sure to go places, appealing to both lovers of alternative rock and non-lovers alike.

‘The Missing Mouth’ was launched officially on Friday, Nov. 23rd at the Rockhouse, George Street, St. John’s NL, with doors opening at 10:30pm and music starting at 11pm.
