Described as having the symptoms of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS all at once, Huntington Disease, HD, is an incapacitating disease that affect one in every 7,000 Canadians, and is sadly fatal and incurable.
However, due to new research, there is hope for treatments that target the cause of HD. The Huntington Society of Canada (HSC) will be providing a live forum for care-givers and patients of HD, where they can mingle with other patients, get questions answered by leading HD professionals, and learn about recent scientific breakthroughs in HD.
This year, the Community Education Forum will be hosted in the Community Room of Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear on June 8th from 11 am until 3 pm.
This year will see two pre-recorded presentations by Dr. Micheal Hayden and Dr. Ed Wild, as well as local presenter Elaine Smith, about the basics of HD. Other presentations will be by Catherine Price and Courtney Farr, Youth Mentors who will be presenting about the opportunities of the Youth Mentorship Program.
